First kind of stretching is static stretching. Beginners are recommended for this kind of stretching. This kind of stretching involves the act of holding and maintaining a specific stretch in a specific position without movement.
When the person become use to static stretches, he can advance to next type of stretches that is ballistic stretching. In ballistic stretching, one has to perform a stretch which involves the act of first holding a stretch position for a period of time then gently bouncing on the stretch, as one does in advanced hamstring stretching.
But one must note hat stretching and flexibility workouts need to be used as a warm up for further exercise but many stretches can be done any time of day when the body begins to feel tense or tight. If you are new to workouts and exercises, it is better to have some trainer who can guide you properly other wise there are chances that you might get injured during the workouts.
Another aspect in this is that you must always keep the purpose of workouts in front of you. You must know that you are spending your time to stay fit or you want to lose extra fat or you are attending fitness classes after recovering from an illness.
